Eschborn: Between the Main River and the Taunus – a modern city with a high quality of life
In Eschborn, SPORT has always been a top priority. The city between the Main River and the Taunus is known for much more than just its involvement in the Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling classic. Numerous sports clubs help residents stay active and fit. Since 2014, a specially founded association has organized the annual half marathon “Eschathlon,” which is attracting more and more runners from across the region.
But Eschborn also offers a vibrant cultural scene with theatre, concerts, exhibitions, festivals and markets, as well as the municipal cinema Eschborn K, providing a wide range of entertainment for all ages. Since the 1960s, Eschborn has experienced strong economic growth, now reflected in four commercial districts. The hallmark of this up-and-coming city is its skyline, visible from afar. Visitors and passersby can see that globally operating companies—especially in the finance, consulting, IT, and telecommunications sectors—have settled here. A prominent example is Deutsche Börse AG, which relocated its headquarters to Eschborn in 2010.
Frankfurt am Main - the compact metropolis in motion
Frankfurt am Main combines international dynamism with short distances and a high quality of life. Beyond its striking skyline and financial district, the city on the Main is defined by diversity and a strong sense of community, rooted in a diverse urban society. Sport is an integral part of urban life in Frankfurt. It brings people together regardless of age, background, or performance level. Whether in clubs, public spaces, or at major events, the city provides reliable conditions to ensure that sport remains accessible to everyone. World-renowned events such as the Eschborn–Frankfurt cycling classic, the Mainova IRONMAN European Championship, and the traditional Mainova Frankfurt Marathon characterize the Hessian metropolis, along with numerous inclusive and integrative events. They make Frankfurt am Main a stage where elite, young, and recreational athletes come together—vibrant, diverse, and open to all.
Oberursel (Taunus)
Schmitten im Taunus
The Highest Municipality in the Taunus
The greater municipality of Schmitten in the Taunus is beautifully situated at the Großer Feldberg, the highest peak in the Taunus Nature Park in the Hochtaunus district (881 meters above sea level), while still being close to the Rhine-Main region. Around 9,500 residents live in this climatic health resort, which consists of nine districts and covers an area of approximately 36 km².

Cycling and mountain biking, along with hiking and walking, are among the most popular leisure activities. Geocaching and horseback riding are also popular with both locals and visitors. The outdoor swimming pool, set in an idyllic natural setting and designed in a charming 1920s style, invites visitors to cool off during the warmer months.
Glashütten
Glashütten looks forward to the cycling race on May 1st!
Glashütten is a municipality with around 5,500 residents, located in the southwest of the Hochtaunus district, bordering the Rheingau-Taunus district and the Main-Taunus district. Its location offers an attractive combination of rural charm and easy access to larger cities.
The surroundings of Glashütten are characterized by a natural landscape that is ideal for outdoor activities. The region features numerous hiking trails, including sections of the well-known Rheinsteig, offering breathtaking views of the forests and valleys of the Taunus. Glashütten itself consists of the districts of Glashütten, Schloßborn, and Oberems.
The name “Glashütten” dates back to a long history of glass production. In the 16th century, glassworks operated here, some of which can still be visited in the surrounding forests. Today, the village is best known for its close connection to nature and its idyllic atmosphere. Thanks to its proximity to larger cities and its high quality of life in a natural setting, Glashütten is becoming increasingly important as a residential location for people who want to enjoy both urban amenities and the benefits of rural living.
The newly built Limes Observation Tower stands at a historically significant site, right next to the remains of the Roman fortlet Maisel on Kröfteler Weg. The tower has a total height of 16.5 meters and is part of the Limes Experience Trail.
Eppstein
The city of Eppstein is once again part of the Taunus Team for the traditional Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling race on May 1st.
Eppstein is known for its romantic medieval castle ruins and its beautiful location amidst the forested hills of the Vordertaunus. At the same time, its proximity to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, with easy access to highways and S-Bahn connections, provides excellent conditions for commuters, residents, and visitors alike.
Local businesses also benefit from these location advantages. Three commercial areas are home to traditional craft enterprises, internationally connected service providers, and highly specialized manufacturing companies. Supporting and promoting these businesses is the primary task of Eppstein’s economic development agency, SWE GmbH. Expansions and new settlements are actively encouraged, with networks to the Main-Taunus district, the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the local business association IHH, and the Start-Up Promotion Association playing an important role.
The city is shaped by a vibrant community with actors such as the volunteer fire brigade, numerous clubs, and many people engaged in voluntary work. Politics and administration are equally committed to ensuring and improving the quality of life for all residents of Eppstein. This is a daily effort.
Visit Eppstein on the occasion of the cycling race on May 1st and celebrate with us! We warmly welcome you!
And by the way: A very special highlight is the Eppstein Castle Festival, which takes place in summer. Come and experience the unique open-air setting of our castle!
Kelkheim
Kelkheim (Taunus) – Surrounded by Nature, Yet Centrally Located
Nestled in the Rhine-Main metropolitan region between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, Kelkheim lies on the southern slopes of the Taunus. Its six districts, home to around 29,000 residents, offer plenty to discover for visitors.
Explore the city’s highlights along the hiking and cycling trails—whether it’s the Kelkheim Monastery, the city’s landmark with fascinating Neo-Romanesque architecture, the Hofgut Rettershof with its impressive history, or the observation tower at the highest point of the Main-Taunus district on Atzelberg in Eppenhain. Idyllic spots along the trail network invite visitors to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
For those who enjoy a more active experience, the summit routes are perfect. Reward yourself after a climb to the historic Großer Mannstein in Fischbach with regional cuisine and delicious cakes at one of Kelkheim’s restaurants.
Sulzbach (Taunus)
Sulzbach (Taunus) – Between Metropolis and Rural Charm
The municipality of Sulzbach (Taunus) is located very close to Frankfurt and not far from the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden, right in the heart of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. Yet, away from the urban hustle, it offers the chance to enjoy its rural charm.
The privileged location is appreciated by numerous businesses, companies, and private residents alike. So is the wide range of shopping at the renowned Main-Taunus-Zentrum, as well as the selection of local services and products available in the town center.
Additionally, the high density of clubs and institutions relative to its population provides excellent leisure opportunities. Sulzbach’s identity balances a forward-looking view of modernity with a respect for tradition and historical heritage.
Schwalbach am Taunus
Schwalbach am Taunus Welcomes the Cycling Race on May 1st!
The small town, with around 15,500 residents, is located in the Taunus Nature Park and borders directly on the metropolitan area of the Rhine-Main region. Its advantages include a peaceful green setting and excellent transport connections.
The old town center, with its historic town hall, half-timbered houses, and inns, recalls the former village first mentioned in the year 781. In the 1960s, the residential area Limes was developed in Schwalbach am Taunus, realizing the urban planning concept of an “organic city landscape” in the shape of a large, green leaf.
Here, all routes are short: to the metropolis, into nature, within the town, and not least to the town hall. Many successful companies have already discovered these advantages of Schwalbach for themselves.
Königstein im Taunus
Königstein im Taunus – Climatic Health Resort and Town of Two Castles
Königstein im Taunus, idyllically situated at the foot of Germany’s oldest climatic health park, is a recognized climatic health resort. The air here is pure and fresh, the climate mild—almost Mediterranean—and above all, wonderfully varied. The smoothly interwoven valleys and heights of the Hochtaunus invite visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
Königstein enjoys a privileged location. High above the town, home to around 17,000 residents, towers Königstein Castle—the city’s landmark. At its feet lies the old town with picturesque alleys, shops, cafés, and inns, right next to the Kurpark, laid out as a stately garden.
On the weekend after Ascension Day, the Königstein knights invite visitors to a spectacular medieval tournament with a traditional market. At the end of June, the Castle Festival kicks off a three-day celebration with fireworks, a parade, and evening parties at the castle. During the summer holidays, the “Event Summer” brings colorful outdoor activities to the town. And these are just the highlights…
A second castle is located in the district of Falkenstein, specifically in the “Falkensteiner Hain,” a nature reserve connecting the town center with its district. From the castle tower, visible from afar, you can enjoy perhaps the best view over the Rhine-Main region.
Among cycling enthusiasts, however, the district of Mammolshain is especially well-known—and feared: here, not only professionals struggle up the 200-meter-long “Mammolshainer Berg,” which has a challenging 23% gradient.
Kronberg im Taunus
Kronberg im Taunus – Culture, History, and Leisure in a Perfect Location
Kronberg im Taunus is rich in visible history and offers a wide range of cultural attractions and leisure activities.
As a confident part of the open-minded, economically strong, and dynamic Frankfurt / Rhine-Main metropolitan region, Kronberg is centrally located yet away from the hustle and bustle. Internationality here is not just a lofty claim but a lived reality.
Kronberg Castle, a high medieval rock castle built in the 13th century, along with small, unique shops, restaurants, and museums, shape the picturesque and well-preserved old town with its charming alleys and squares, inviting visitors to linger. Kronberg is also a popular starting point for cycling enthusiasts who enjoy exploring the heights of the Taunus.
