Eschborn

Between the Main and Taunus – A modern city with a high quality of life

In Eschborn, SPORT has always been a big deal. The city between the Main and Taunus is known not only for its commitment to the Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling classic but also for its numerous sports clubs where residents stay fit. Since 2014, a specially founded association has organized the annual half marathon “Eschathlon,” which increasingly attracts runners from across the region.

Eschborn also offers a vibrant cultural scene with theater, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, markets, and the municipal cinema Eschborn K, providing diverse entertainment options for all ages.

Since the 1960s, Eschborn has experienced economic growth reflected in its four industrial areas. The hallmark of this emerging city is its skyline, visible from afar. Visitors and passersby can see that globally operating companies, especially from the finance, consulting, IT, and telecommunications sectors, have settled here. A prominent example is Deutsche Börse AG, which relocated its headquarters to Eschborn in 2010.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a metropolis in miniature – and that’s exactly what makes the city on the Main so livable and full of experiences! Here, you’re in tune with the times but without the stress of a mega-city..

Sport plays a major role in Frankfurt am Main. Sport has the power to inspire people—both through active participation and watching. The city of Frankfurt am Main continuously creates and improves conditions to make both possible for its residents.

About 420 gymnastics and sports clubs in Frankfurt regularly engage 220,000 members across a wide variety of sports. The range of offerings is broad, with options for young and old alike.

High-profile events, such as the internationally contested cycling race every May 1st, contribute significantly to Frankfurt’s reputation as a sports city. In addition, international top events like the Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling classic, the Mainova Ironman European Championship Frankfurt, and the oldest city marathon, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, uniquely connect elite sports with grassroots and youth sports.

Furthermore, numerous events with an inclusive character—such as the Down Sports Festival and the Integrative Play and Sports Festival—define the diversity of Frankfurt’s sports calendar.

Oberursel (Taunus)

The Gateway to the Taunus

From the tower of St. Ursula’s Church, the city’s landmark, you can look out over the historic old town. Charming half-timbered houses, enchanting alleys, and numerous fountains create a special atmosphere. Thanks to its location and excellent infrastructure, the city is an important economic and residential hub in the Rhine-Main area.

Oberursel (Taunus) is a young, vibrant city: currently, about 47,000 people live in the second-largest city of the Hochtaunuskreis district and its four districts. Culture, sport, and leisure shape modern Oberursel. You can leisurely browse through the many shops in the shopping town. Whether Hessian cuisine or international specialties—Oberursel’s gastronomy delights the palate.

The U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and Taunusbahn connect Oberursel to Frankfurt/Main and the Rhine-Main Airport in a short travel time. At the same time, Oberursel opens the gateway to the Taunus. The city in the green is an ideal starting point for numerous walks, hikes, or tours through the Taunus.

Eppstein

The city of Eppstein is once again part of Team Taunus for the traditional Eschborn-Frankfurt cycling race on May 1st. With a route festival in our picturesque old town, we celebrate the athletes together with residents and all guests who are warmly welcome!

We are grateful for the energetic and voluntary support from TSG Eppstein, the Evangelical Talkirche, and the Volunteer Fire Department. The Weinpresse Eppstein also takes care of food and drink.

Eppstein is known for its romantic medieval castle ruins as well as its beautiful location amid the wooded hills of the Vordertaunus. At the same time, its proximity to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden—with easy access to the highway and S-Bahn connections—offers excellent conditions for commuters, residents, and visitors.

Local companies also benefit from these location factors. Three industrial areas are home to traditional craft businesses, internationally connected service providers, as well as highly specialized manufacturing companies. Supporting and assisting these businesses is the primary task of Eppstein’s economic development agency, SWE GmbH. Expansion and new settlements are actively promoted. Networks within the Main-Taunus district, the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the local trade association IHH, and the association for the promotion of startups play a significant role in this.

The city is shaped by a lively community with actors such as the volunteer fire department, numerous clubs, and many people engaged in volunteer work. Politics and administration are equally committed to securing and improving the quality of life for all residents of Eppstein. This is a daily effort.

Visit Eppstein during the cycling race on May 1st and celebrate with us!
We warmly welcome you!

By the way: A very special highlight is the Eppstein Castle Festival, which will take place for the 110th time this summer. Come and experience the unique open-air setting of our castle!

Schwalbach am Taunus

Schwalbach am Taunus welcomes the cycling race on May 1st!

The small town with just over 15,000 inhabitants lies within the Taunus Nature Park and borders directly on the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. Its advantages include a quiet location in green surroundings and excellent transport connections.

The old town center, with its historic town hall, half-timbered houses, and inns, recalls the former village first mentioned in the year 781. In the 1960s, Schwalbach am Taunus realized the urban planning concept of an “organic city landscape” in the form of a large green leaf with the residential area Limes.

A number of well-known and globally active companies are based in Schwalbach am Taunus, where around 9,000 people work.

Sulzbach

The municipality of Sulzbach (Taunus) is located in close proximity to Frankfurt and not far from the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden, right at the heart of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. Yet, away from the urban hustle, there is the opportunity to enjoy rural charm.

The privileged location is appreciated by numerous businesses, companies, and private individuals alike. Also valued is the abundance of shopping options at the renowned Main-Taunus-Zentrum as well as the selection of local services and products found in the town center.

In addition, the high density of clubs and institutions—considering the population size—provides great recreational value. Sulzbach’s self-image includes tradition and historical heritage alongside a focused outlook on modernity and the future.

Kronberg

Kronberg im Taunus is rich in visible history and offers a variety of cultural events as well as leisure activities. As a confident part of the open-minded, economically strong, and dynamic Frankfurt / Rhine-Main metropolitan region, Kronberg is right in the middle yet away from the hustle and bustle.

Internationality here is not just a lofty claim but a lived reality. Kronberg Castle, a high medieval rock castle built in the 13th century, along with small and unique shops, gastronomy, and museums shape the picturesque and well-preserved old town with its charming alleys and squares that invite you to linger.

Kronberg is also a popular starting point for cycling enthusiasts who enjoy heading into the heights of the Taunus.

Königstein

Königstein im Taunus – Climatic Health Resort and Town of Two Castles

Königstein im Taunus, idyllically located at the foot of Germany’s oldest climatic health park, is a recognized climatic health resort. Here, the air is pure and fresh, the climate mild and almost Mediterranean, but above all varied. The smoothly transitioning valleys and hills of the Hochtaunus invite visitors to enjoy nature.

Königstein enjoys a privileged location. High above the town, which has around 17,000 inhabitants, towers Königstein Castle—the city’s landmark. At its feet nestles the old town with picturesque alleys, shops, cafés, and inns, located right next to the spa park, designed as a grand garden.

On the weekend after Ascension Day, the Königstein knights invite visitors to a spectacular medieval tournament with a market. At the end of June, the castle festival kicks off a three-day extravaganza with fireworks, a festive parade, and evening parties at the castle. During the summer holidays, the summer event draws crowds outdoors with colorful activities. And these are just the highlights...

A second castle stands in the Falkenstein district, specifically in the “Falkensteiner Hain,” a nature reserve connecting the core city with its district. From the castle tower, visible from afar, you have perhaps the most beautiful view over the Rhine-Main area.

Among cycling enthusiasts, the district of Mammolshain is especially known—and feared: Here, not only professionals struggle up the 200-meter-long “Mammolshainer Berg,” a steep climb with a challenging 23 percent gradient.

Schmitten im Taunus

The Highest-Located Municipality in the Taunus

The large municipality of Schmitten im Taunus is beautifully situated on the Großer Feldberg, the highest peak in the Taunus Nature Park within the Hochtaunuskreis district (881 meters above sea level), and at the same time close to the Rhine-Main area. Around 9,500 inhabitants live in this climatic health resort, which consists of nine districts and covers an area of about 36 km².

Notable sights include the Pferdskopfturm (Horse’s Head Tower) and the Oberreifenberg castle ruins. Schmitten im Taunus is not only a popular day-trip destination but also offers visitors the choice of a relaxed or active stay.

Schmitten provides numerous opportunities. Cycling and mountain biking, alongside hiking and walking, are the most popular leisure activities. Geocaching and horseback riding are also in demand among locals and visitors alike.

The outdoor swimming pool, located in an idyllic natural setting and styled charmingly in the 1920s fashion, invites visitors to refresh themselves during the warm months.
